Magic Crisp Microwave Crisper
The Magic Crisp Microwave Crisper is my new favorite As Seen On TV product, and that should tell you something right there. I love, and love to hate, these infomercial items but the Magic Crisp is totally different. For once, they made something I can really use, and really use it a lot.
I remember when microwave ovens first hit the scene and we thought they could do most anything. Cooking a hot dog in 30 seconds was a miracle and no matter what we cooked, we cooked it fast! But cooking fast does not mean cooking well.
Nearly 30 years later, we still suffer from microwave quality issues regarding the taste and texture of our food. Sure the frozen dinners taste great, but what about breads and frozen foods?
If you have ever made frozen french fries in the microwave, then you know how soggy and gross they are. Fries are supposed to have a little crispiness to them and until now it was impossible in the microwave. However, there have been some feeble attempts in the last few years mainly by microwave in shiny little cardboard contraptions that come with the food. You know those sleeves that wrap around your hot pockets or those little trays your tater tot boxes fold up into so you have some weird tray. They work a tiny bit but for fried foods they tend to create a ton of grease and very little crunch.
The magic crisp is different and if you watch the Magic Crisp Commercial below, you will begin to see why. Take a look and I'll do my review after the jump.

Magic Crisp Microwave Crisper Review
So you have seen the magic crisp commercial and it looks great, but does it work. I'm going to cut right to the chase in this review and tell you that it does! I was thrilled with thing from the moment I got it.
I will admit that I learned that I do not like crispy bacon and prefer the soggy kind but other than that everything else is a million times better. Here is how the magic crisp works. Its shockingly simple and you wonder how nobody thought of this sooner but all it is a fancy spinning tray.
It has a special raised ridge design which allows your food to not only rest higher but funnel air beneath for perfectly even cooking and heat distribution. One of the things they don't really point out in the commercial is that this raised design does not allow for the build up of moisture between the cooking surface and the food. This is what makes cooking on other microwave plates so terrible and your food so wet. Yuk!
So now if you reheat some bread it will get crispier and not smooshy. Bacon gets Crisp. Pizza keeps its texture and chicken tenders keep their crunch. Leftovers taste terrific. Also, frozen foods taste like they are supposed to. Frozen fries and tots are golden brown and microwave pizzas are crisp. Fish Sticks and Poppers crunch and quesadillas don't flop.
The magic crisp really is a revolution in microwave cooking because we can finally reheat and cook food to taste and feel the way we want it. Nothing ever tastes right the next day but the magic crisp changes that and it does a really great job delivering on its promise of crispy, crunchy and perfectly cooked food.
Doggie Bags are no longer just for the dogs, we can get excited over leftovers and quick easy nuked dinners for the kids. The Magic Crisp cleans as easy as it says in the commercial and is relatively cheap. I know it says it is only $10 but if you throw in the shipping and handling plus the delivery cost on shipping of the supposedly free one, you will end up paying around $24.
It is not expensive for a cooking utensil but it really only is made from plastic so it might seem a little steep. However, if you use it, then it is definitely worth the price and I highly recommend this product. It has been a long time since there has been a "must have" television item like Magic Crisp, but rest assured this is going to be a huge hit.
To date you cannot buy Magic Crisp in stores so you are going to have to suck it up an order online. But, like so many other seen on TV products, I expect this will hit the stores withing a few months. I can't imagine the marketing people holding back a product as good as this one so be on the lookout for the Magic Crisp.

I saw the Magic Crisp on TV but didn't think it was new. I had something very similar back in the early 80's. I think it was just called a bacon tray. It was bigger and bulkier but worked pretty well if I am remembering correctly. I probably still have it somewhere.
You can not get this product on line from Magic Crisp. They have taken it off the market.

I have to agree with you about the bacon. Since I've grown up with a microwave I've always had soft. Crispy bacon is not for me, but I would be interest to find out how the magic crisp makes fries or tater tots. I'll probably wait til I can find the magic crisp in stores.
