ShamPaw: Sham Paw Dog Washing Glove
The Sham Paw Dog Washing Glove? Oh, man where do I begin? First let me say that the ShamPaw exemplifies all things great about As Seen On TV Products. What it does, The way it's sold and of course the infomercial, are what makes this product great. I guess equally important is the fact that it works pretty darn well.
The idea behind the Sham Paw is really quite simple. It makes bathing the dog easier for us and healthier for our dogs. Why? Because it is convenient, easy to use and made from high quality materials. It's not some lame little gadget, which frankly I think the name might suggest. In a nutshell the Shampaw combines all the aspects of dog washing, and its difficulties, into one great tool. In a nutshell, it is a textured glove that shoots the soap and water so you don't have to. The fact that this is all done with one hand leaves your other to handle the dog. You won't be flopping around grabbing shampoo bottles and trying to hold the hose while your dog tries to escape. The Shampaw actually seems to put the dog at ease because there is very little commotion during the process.
One thing you can be sure about with the Shampaw is that for what it is and does, there is nothing quite like it on the market so it is worth exploring. Even thought it is designed to make dog washing as easy as possible for the human, we can think of this as the ultimate dog washing system because it's pretty high tech.
It actually is a one size fits all glove that straps to your wrist and the glove will clean the dog down to his skin, not just the fur. The glove doesn't care if you are right handed or left handed, it will work either way. There is a ten inch hose and several adapters for sinks, shower, tub and hose. This thing works inside and outdoors.
Sham Paw Video Review
Some of the things about the Shampaw are really worth mentioning because being so used to washing our dogs the traditional way makes us forget how to really get them clean. Usually we just slop on some shampoo, rub it around and rinse. If we're really feeling smart, we'll let the shampoo sit for awhile and soak in before we rinse, just because we think it will give a better clean or condition the skin. But, we aren't really thoroughly cleaning. We are only attempting to wash the fur and the skin get's little benefit. Especially if your dog has skin conditions even using high pressure hoses can be damaging and the water will actually dry the skin. So, even though we think we may be blasting away the dirt, it's not really the best for the dog.
The shampaw actually has 38 water jets really help rinse away all the dirt, dander and dead skin while the construct of the glove is actually able to wash and lather the undercoat down to the skin for a real thorough clean. The difference after a bath with shampaw is very noticeable. For example, I have a Shi Tzu who gets very dry flaky skin. Within a couple of days of his bath he usually scratching at himself creating all types of problems which eventually lead to open wounds and a trip to the vet. With shampaw this doesn't happen. He seems more content and I'm thinking because his skin and coat get really clean there are less irritants causing him problems. Not to mention that his dry and flaky skin seems to be in better condition. So the fact that giving him a bath has become very easy for me, the results are much better for him. It's a win win proposition for me.
Now back to the As Seen On TV carnival like way this thing is being marketed. The shampaw is actually a great product. Its benefits are legitimate and the results speak for themselves. So why the campy name? To me it seems to cheapen the product but as an As Seen On TV guy, I know that marketing can be even more important than whether a product is good or not.
The fact that this product seems to be named after the ShamWow shouldn't bother you too much. Usually I would say it was a red flag but the ShamPaw is too good to pass up if you need help properly bathing your dog. Having said that, they obviously try to get a bit creative with some of their silly ads but I give them points for trying. Watch one of these to the right and you'll see what I mean.
